ton Bach Society from Christ the King Lutheran Church will be presenting sacred cantatas on Reformation Sunday, Oct. 25, in our nave at 6:00 p.m. A pre-concert lecture by musicologist Dr. Gregory Barnett will begin at 5:15 p.m.
We welcome the Bach Society to Salem as renovation in the Christ the King nave occurs.
The Bach Vespers series presents complete sacred cantatas along with choral motets and psalm settings in an evening prayer service related to a single theme. This gives them a context similar to their original performance, with chorales and readings chosen to give deeper insight into Bach’s theology. Listeners are also invited to sing and participate as Bach’s congregation did.
The Bach Society Houston was founded in 1982. Its principal mission is to present exemplary, historically informed professional performances of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his legacy.
