“Everything happens for a reason.” “God helps those who help themselves.” “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” “God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” “Love the sinner, hate the sin.”
These are simple phrases. They sound Christian – like something you might find in the Bible. You might have said them yourself. They may capture some element of the truth, yet they miss the point in important ways and can cause pain and harm to those who hear them. This Lent, we’ll be exploring “Half Truths: God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn’t Say” by Adam Hamilton as we join our neighbors at Grace Episcopal for a shared soup supper and learning opportunity on Wednesday evenings during Lent.
The book is available at the following sights: Cokesbury.com & Amazon.com in e-book, hardback, and large print editions. If you can’t access these sights, contact the office and we’ll place an order as needed.
