The last Sunday in October is our annual festival of Reformation.
Reformation celebrates the basics of the Christian faith and renewal in the church. On Oct. 31, 1517, Dr. Martin Luther, an Augustianian monk and teacher, posted his Ninety-Five Theses on the Castle Church door — the church bulletin door — in Wittenberg, Germany. It was the day before All Hallows (All Saints) Day, when all would come to the Castle Church for worship. Luther’s All Hallows Eve action — desiring that the church be faithful to the Gospel — is widely regarded as the beginning of the Reformation.
