Salem Serving Day – Oct. 12

“What is Salem Serving Day?”

Salem Serving Day is a day that is set aside for every person in the congregation to participate in some form of service activity in and around the community. Salem Serving Day is set for Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

We will be doing the following projects:

  • Quilting for Houston Hospice — Quilts made will be delivered to Houston Hospice for their patients.
  • Books Between Kids — Participants will be sorting books in their warehouse so they can provide home libraries for at-risk children.
  • First Responder Thank You Packages — Participants will assemble and deliver packages as a thank you to our area constables and fire fighters.
  • Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy — Participants will do various tasks like digging, mulching, planting trees, etc.
  • Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM) —  BIM is our area social ministry coalition which addresses the needs of those in our immediate community by providing food, clothes, and special needed items like school supplies and holiday food baskets.  Participants will go to the resale shop on Salem Serving Day.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one our most basic convictions as Lutherans:  that all of life in Jesus Christ — every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life — flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
