Salem Serving Day – SATURDAY, Oct. 6

Salem Serving Day is a time set aside for all members and friends to work in our community.   Below are some Q’s & A’s.  If you need additional information, please contact socialmin@salemhouston.org.

When is the event? Saturday, Oct. 6

Worship service is at 9:00 a.m. in the Nave, followed by volunteer service (maps will be distributed for offsite projects), and lunch at the church around 12:30 p.m.

Will we have t-shirts this year? We don’t have a 2018 t-shirt. We invite everyone to wear one of their serving day shirts from previous years. If you need a shirt or would like a new one, please contact us at the link above.

What projects can I choose from?

  • Willow Waterhole (digging, mulching and trimming trees at an outdoor park)
  • Books Between Kids (sorting children’s books in a warehouse. Note: The warehouse is not air conditioned.
  • Quilting (contact socialmin@salemhouston.org) for information.
  • Free Wheels Bike Collection (collecting bikes in the church parking lot and guiding donors to the parking lot).
  • First Responders Thank You Packages (putting together a care package to thank our area constables and fire fighters).
  • Braes Interfaith Ministries [BIM] (watch for more details soon — BIM is our area social ministry coalition).

How can I sign up? Sign up sheets will be in the baptistry beginning in August.

Can I get service hours for participating? Yes! Students can get credit for four service hours. Please contact us at socialmin@salemhouston.org to register.

What equipment will I need to bring if I sign up for Willow Waterhole? All materials and equipment including gloves will be provided. Snacks and water will also be provided. You are encouraged to wear long pants, boots, long sleeves, a hat, sunscreen and mosquito spray.
