Salem’s Response to COVID-19

March 17, 2020

Greetings in Christ,

On recommendation of Bishop Mike, the CDC, the city of Houston and other agencies, the council and I have decided to suspend all in person gatherings at Salem for the next three weeks. We will reevaluate as we near Holy Week and Easter. There will be no Wednesday Bible study, Wednesday worship, choir rehearsals, or Sunday worship at Salem.

We will be streaming worship online through Facebook live and will work to post the video on our website for later viewing. Look for more information in email in the next few days.

We are working on developing a calling system to connect with each member of Salem on a weekly basis. We encourage you to stay connected to one another through phone calls, email, social media, or other means.

The church office will be open during this time for phone calls and email communication. You can call the office at 713-723-3509, call Pastor Marvin at 469-443-4380, email Pastor Marvin at [email protected], or email Sharon at [email protected].

We ask that you remember Salem during this time. Salaries, the mortgage, utilities and other costs continue, even when worship has moved to online. Please consider mailing your contribution to the church or giving online through our website: www.salemhouston.org and click the Donate button at the top of the page.

We encourage you to pray for one another, for our world, and for all who are sick and in need.

Gracious God, it is good for us to gather as your beloved in community. We treasure your presence with us in word and meal, song and prayer. Be with us in these days when gathering together as often as we would like is not possible. When we must be apart for reasons of safety, we trust that you surround us with your sheltering wings. Encourage us in connecting as we are able, reaching out to our neighbors in need and being persistent in prayer. We ask this in the name of Jesus, our constant companion. Amen.
